Reporting
The research project culminates with group presentations scheduled for the last
week of class. Presentations are delivered orally with PowerPoint visuals and last
between 15-20 minutes in length. A series of guidelines (Appendix, Form D) are
outlined and teams are encouraged to delegate responsibility for each section as they
deem necessary. I encourage students to pay as much attention to structure and form as
they do to the content. Since the principle objective of the project is for students to learn
the formalities of the scientific research process itself rather than in any substantive
discovery about the attitudes and behaviors of the University community, the presentation
reflect these basic elements: Introduction, Methodology, Findings, and Conclusions.
Grades and Assessment
Student grades are calculated based on overall group presentation scores and
individual contribution scores, as determined by peer review (see Appendix, Form E).
These are collected at two points during the semester - mid-semester and on presentation
day - with the earlier one serving as an intervention to help encourage under-performing
group members.
The “Track Summary” from the 2007 APSA Teaching and Learning Conference
encourages greater emphasis on the systematic assessment of various teaching
