Bridging the Curricular and Co-Curricular: The Rockefeller Center Model of Civic Engagement

Several times per term PoliTALK hosts a breakfast or dinner with either a Dartmouth professor or outside speaker. These special meetings allow students to interact with a variety of interesting guests who come to Dartmouth's campus to speak on political issues, or to get to know those Dartmouth professors who share interests similar to their own. It is not rare for famous politicians or columnists to sit with 10 or 12 students and talk for an hour. Weekly discussions have featured a variety of topics: partisanship, Supreme Court and politics, fiscal policy, nuclear proliferation, and universal healthcare. E. Women in Leadership Women in Leadership empowers young women to take responsible roles in leadership positions, pursue careers, and reach for their highest goals without restraint. Women in Leadership introduces students to women who have confronted challenges as they rose to positions of eminence. The organization aspires to aid women of Dartmouth in breaking through gender barriers and accomplishing their dreams. A wide variety of successful women from the business world, politics, and the nonprofit sector have shared their experiences in a personal setting with Women in Leadership. A few of the more memorable discussions in the recent past have included: dating at Dartmouth, women in athletics, women and sorority life, a discussion with Dr. Professor Lisa Adams on her experiences in international health, and a discussion with author/writer/lawyer/political activist Kathy Roth-Douquet This year, Women in Leadership plans to continue hosting women who have achieved prominence in their fields. Tentative ideas include women journalists, women in politics, and leaders in the world of academia. While group leaders wish to continue 13

E. Women in Leadership
