Abstract:

This paper discusses the question of how study abroad fits into the under graduate political science curriculum. In particular it focuses on issues related to “hands on “learning, including the use of field trips, conferences and simulations to enhance learning and comprehension in and outside of the classroom. As well, it focuses on the benefits of exposure to different, non-American schools of thought, intellectual traditions and methods of teaching in the discipline. Finally, it looks at questions related to the utility of foreign language learning and intercultural experiences, concluding with the importance of supporting the “study” in study abroad.
