Abstract:

This paper presents a summary of preliminary empirical findings from a research project on the political economy of military spending in the European Union. An analysis of the differential and transnational facets of the capital accumulation process challenges the notion of an EU military-industrial complex, revealing a relative subordination the arms firms to other dominant capital groups in the UK and France, and a decreasing reliance for sales and profits on ‘domestic’ military spending.
