Abstract:

The research at hand examines the impact of political trust on policy preferences among Latinos. More specifically the paper seeks to look at the role of political trust on support for health care reform. Findings suggest that political trust impacts Latino policy preferences, however not in the expected direction. Instead this research finds that political trust has a negative impact on support for health care reform. Results do suggests that political trust impact whites and Latinos differently, with trust having a positive impact among whites. Lastly, this paper finds that Hetherington’s “sacrifice based” theory does not extend to Latinos, nor does the ideological sacrifice theory of Rudolph and Evans.
