Korean voters’ issue voting behavior in the 16th Korean presidential election

And such a confrontation between the conservative and the libertarian played an important role in helping to alleviate regionalism (Kim Wook 2007). Moreover, this ideological confrontation made the 16 th Korean Presidential election a critical election by making several issues salient and forming a clear social cleavage by age through which Korean voters made decision about those issues. Thus this paper is to analyze Korean voters’ issue voting behavior which was newly brought out in the 16 th Korean presidential election. 2. Literature Review Published in 1960, “The American Voter” (Campbell et al 1960) started dispute over issue voting by arguing that political issues were hard to influence the result of election because the American voters usually select their candidates depending on party identification(PID) inherited from their parents.
