Abstract:

This paper explores the cause of sudden surge of credit defaulters in South Korea after 1997 Asian financial crisis. Through an empirical analysis of individual credit defaulters, this paper shows that the dominent view based on individual choice and moral responsibility lacks only explaining power but also logical validity.
