Fantasy Congress: It’s for Real

They seem very in tune with users’ needs and wants for “Fantasy Congress.” Most recently, in the Spring of 2008, they added a series of pages specifically designed for classroom use to help guide both teachers and students through the process of using “Fantasy Congress” (found at: http://www.fantasycongress.com/edu ). Additionally, the creators continue to update the scoring process to more accurately reflect true member contributions. Recommendations Based on both my evaluation of “Fantasy Congress” as well as student feedback throughout the semester, I make the following recommendations: have students “draft” their members via the “auction draft” option rather than the “pick’em draft” option; reserve a computer lab for the class at the beginning of the course; and increase the percentage of the final grade “Fantasy Congress” counts for the semester. The major recommendation for instructors is to use a draft for selecting team members. I implemented the “pick’em draft” option, where student can select any member of Congress for their team. I did this with that idea that a student should be able to a member of Congress on their team if he or she wants that member. (I anticipated high demand for members such as Barack Obama considering his time in the news and 12
