Healthcare, Property Tax Exemptions and Implications from Recent Court Cases
Unformatted Document Text:  36 Conclusion The delivery of health care services continues to evolve in response to technological developments, advances in therapy and changes in financing. Health care institutions must adapt with new services and facilities to stay economically viable. Some of the services may be developed simply to enhance bottom line results. The cases in this research exposed the conflict between health care managers committed to a nonprofit form but adapting to a rapidly changing environment and tax authorities committed to preserving an eroding tax base. It is unlikely that these types of conflicts will subside. As Youngman notes, The charitable exemption from the property tax touches on too many deeply felt and contentious issues ever to be free of political disputes. At any given time, the form of those disputes will reflect pressing contemporary concerns, and unresolved ambiguities in social goals, behavioral expectations, and cultural norms. Confronting and coming to terms with these conflicts in one way in which the nonprofit sector engages with the public life of its age. 101 101 Youngman, "The Politics of the Property-Tax Debate," 41.

Conclusion
The delivery of health care services continues to evolve in response to
technological developments, advances in therapy and changes in financing. Health care
institutions must adapt with new services and facilities to stay economically viable. Some
of the services may be developed simply to enhance bottom line results. The cases in this
research exposed the conflict between health care managers committed to a nonprofit
form but adapting to a rapidly changing environment and tax authorities committed to
preserving an eroding tax base. It is unlikely that these types of conflicts will subside. As
Youngman notes,
The charitable exemption from the property tax touches on too many deeply felt

form of those disputes will reflect pressing contemporary concerns, and unresolved
