Critical Political Psychology: influences from the margins – post-structuralist feminist theory and queer theory

Abstract:

In this presentation I will depart from an understanding of political psychology not only as a psychology, which studies political phenomena, but also as a way of politicizing apparently neutral psychological phenomena (Amâncio & Oliveira, 2006). Starting from two coordinates in a conceptual map of entangled meanings, I’ll present very briefly the tenets of post-modern feminism (in a post-structuralist vein), drawing from the intense exchanges between US feminists and European Continental Philosophy (Cusset, 2004), but also an outline of what Teresa de Lauretis (1991) called Queer Theory.
