Abstract | Word Stems | Keywords | Association | Citation | Similar Titles

Abstract:

We examined the prevalence of violence perpetration and adverse childhood events reported by men and women with varying involvement in sex trading (none, prostitution only, pimping only, or dual involvement. Participants were men (N = 4,444) and women (N = 1,771) entering substance use disorder treatment. All forms of sex trading were associated with negative concomitants, but the nature of these associations differed depending on the type of behavior (pimping, prostitution, dual) and gender. More research aimed at understanding the childhood precursors of sex trading and its association with violence is needed.
