Can Inoculation Create Umbrella Protection Spanning over Related, but Untreated, Attitudes? Inoculation Protecting Young People’s Attitudes from Pressure to Engage in Risky Behaviors

Abstract | Word Stems | Keywords | Association | Citation | Similar Titles

Abstract:

This investigation used a three-phase experiment involving 120 participants. The results revealed that inoculation has the potential to protect the attitudes of young people from counterattitudinal pressures to engage in unprotected sex and binge drinking. The inoculation treatment aimed at protecting the attitudes toward condom use was not only successful in instilling resistance to counterattitudinal attacks on this issue, but also, on the experimentally untreated issue of binge drinking.
