The Land that Never Melts is Melting: Cross-cultural Discourses of Climate Change
Unformatted Document Text:  Climate Change 26 beneficial for people. My intention is not to debate this premise here, but rather to suggest that in engaging in cultural analysis, we may better understand the effects. Perhaps the most dramatic effect of rapid modernization is a rapidly changing climate. While many have sounded the alarm concerning the deleterious effects of climate change, little is actually being done to curtail it. Analyses of cultural discourses do not respond to this, but they can help to shape future discourse about global climate change. This discourse will most assuredly be intercultural in nature. Thus, as the global community contends with the phenomenon, comprehensive understandings of deeply felt cultural premises will allow for more ethical debate (see Johannason, 1996).
