Abstract:

The public speaking course is a uniquely practical course with a historical purpose of broadening the communication skills of democratic citizens. These characteristics give the public speaking course a particular affinity for three pedagogies: experiential, service, and learner-centered learning. This paper documents the intersection of these three pedagogical models in my public speaking classes during the academic year of 2007 -2008, which participated in the service-learning project Take Action, Vote Smart.
