Abstract:

In recent years, the interplay between immigration and policing has received increasing attention. This has been driven in part by recent Federal calls to increase the enforcement of immigration laws by local law enforcement officers. But what impact is this and other policy decisions regarding immigrants having on the relationship between immigrants and local police? How do immigrants perceive the police services they experience and what exactly are those experiences? This paper utilizes data from a survey of both immigrants and non-immigrants in a large ethnically diverse city to explore these and other issues.
