Male College Athletes and Sex "In Play": Attitudinal and Behavioral Assessment of Social Interactions with Women

Abstract | Word Stems | Keywords | Association | Citation | Similar Titles

Abstract:

The objectives of this research study are to identify the sexual behaviors and attitudes of the subjects of the study and their understanding of communications, cues, and verbal and non-verbal exchanges that they receive from women with whom they interact in social settings. The research design will consist of the anonymous administration of the “Sexual Experiences Survey, Revised (Koss, 2006) as well as the “Illinois Rape Myth Scale” (Payne, et al., 1999) to the 227 male athletes who are on the player rosters of the nine athletic teams at a large, urban, private university. Responses to the surveys will then be statistically analyzed to determine the experiences and attitudes of the subjects related to general sexual activity and in particular to sexual aggression. Participants will be asked to participate in this research study in order that the researchers may understand further the attitudes and beliefs that college men may (or may not) share in common about sexuality, communication, and sexual aggression in social situations with women.
