Abstract:

The current study exapnds current research in Hispanic immigration by including measurements of property crime, examining disadvantaged within neighborhoods, and the effect of immigration on crime rates in another large metropolitan area, Houston, Texas. By studying the structural conditions of these neighborhoods, the current study will also take a first crucial step towards understanding why violence may not be as prominent in Latino/Hispanic disadvantaged neighborhoods as found in African American disadvantaged neighborhoods.
