Boys Town Continuum of Child and Family Services

Abstract | Word Stems | Keywords | Association | Citation | Similar Titles

Abstract:

Boys Town is one of the nation’s largest privately funded organizations serving severely at-risk children and their families. Founded in 1917, the nonprofit, nonsectarian organization directly serves more than 51,000 children and assists nearly 1.5 million children and families each year through its youth, family, and health care programs. In the 1980’s, Boys Town, Nebraska, branched out and established programs at 14 sites in 12 states. Several of the sites provided gender specific programming to females in the juvenile justice system. In 2007, Boys Town culminated a year-long strategic planning process with a new mission statement and direction for service delivery. The development of the plan included many stakeholder meetings, at both the local and national level and has resulted in Boys Town’s undertaking to integrate its services into a Continuum of Care model that provides children and families with the right care in the right service at the right time. The presentation will provide the model origins from a research project in the early 1970’s, components of the female-specific programs, and elements of Boys Town’s strategic planning process, its current mission and continuum of child and family services.
