Abstract:

In a study of Philadelphia social and supportive service providers, who serve ex-offenders, a GIS analysis show that faith-based organizations may have a better spatial match with those returning from prison and jail than other service providers. The study examines eight provider types: housing, employment, education and training, health (medical, substance and alcohol), etc. In addition to looking at a geographical variable, the study look examined services provided by these organizations, as well as the level of intensity to which they are provided. The implications of these results suggest that these organizations may be better suited for collaborations and partnerships with other service providers in order to better served ex-offenders.
