Issues in the Measurement and Analysis of Sexual Victimization Trends

Abstract | Word Stems | Keywords | Association | Citation | Similar Titles

Abstract:

To date, there has been very little work on the study of long term trends in sexual victimization. One of the challenges facing researchers is that there is significant confusion and disagreement in the law and among stakeholders on the defintions of rape and on estimates of the incidence and prevalence of sexual violence in the United States. This paper will discuss the different sources of data available for the study of long term trends in sexual victimization, the strengths and weaknesses of the different data sources, and will compare trends from the different sources. The paper will also discuss ways in which researchers might address challenges.
