Investigating Influences and Dimensions of Methamphetamine Policy

Abstract | Word Stems | Keywords | Association | Citation | Similar Titles

Abstract:

This study explores influences and patterns of methamphetamine legislation in the past decade and a half in the United States. Previous research on methamphetamine policy generally focuses on the effects of singular policy events, but has not addressed the etiology of the policy itself, or investigated the different themes and goals of these policy responses. Using a longitudinal design, this project explores the influences of the media, political ideology, and the perceived reality of meth use and supply on the passage of state-level methamphetamine legislation between 1992-2007. Specifically, the different themes (such as precursor, child protection, environmental cleanup, etc.) and goals (such as supply reduction, demand reduction, etc.) of meth legislation are discussed.
