Innovative Teacher Evaluation

Abstract:

This report documents evaluation activity for data collected for East Hampton Public Schools, CT in March 2009. Specifically, these data focus on the implementation of Supervision for Learning (SfL), an evaluation model piloted in the district during the 2008-2009 school year. SfL is an innovative approach to teacher evaluation that focuses on strong teacher-administrator collaboration, the creation of long term and measurable goals, and the use of formative assessment to guide programming. For this report, a mixed-method approach was employed to collect data from three participating schools in the East Hampton School District (one high school, one middle school, and one elementary school). These data consisted of personal interviews (n=20) and survey data (both quantitative and qualitative). Preliminary data analysis reveals that SfL has been successfully piloted at East Hampton and that program replication and sustainability are key issues for program coordinators. This report will provide an analysis of these data, present key findings, and discuss implications and recommendations. An executive summary is provided to allow for easy dissemination and to facilitate planning and program discussion
