Abstract:

In this paper, findings from an on-going professional development project to enhance instructional leadership in six urban high schools are presented. I highlight the importance and impact of professional learning opportunities for department chairpersons embedded “in” and “at” work. The paper ends theoretical and practical implications for distributed instructional leadership building on existing structures and transformed roles for department chairpersons.
