Abstract:

Researchers and policymakers continue to raise questions about the preparation and professional development of school principals to enhance cognition and school culture shaping. Few have examined the level of cognitive load associated with nurturing positive cultures or working to transform toxic cultures. This paper examines the nature of cognitive load and principalsÂ’ tasks using case studies of four principals who maintain positive cultures and four who improve toxic cultures.
