Positive “Intrasection” of Race and Class: Instituting an Insurgency Model for a Radicalization of Praxis

Abstract | Word Stems | Keywords | Association | Citation | Similar Titles

Abstract:

This paper attempts to provide some transparency with regard to how the intersection of race and class still negatively impacts African Americans in their effort to fight for social justice with regard to classism. Because there has been an explicit historical attempt to definitively connect race and class, such a manufactured intersection is powerfully ingrained within the American psyche. And it has successfully created a quagmire with middle-class African Americans in their effort to fight against class injustice, those who are discriminated against in our society due to their lack of educational pedigree, economic standing, and job occupation (Adams, 2000). Thus, this paper will attempt to infuse sociological theoretical concepts with some strands of Critical Race Theory to help provide critical insight into potential barriers of middle-class African Americans amalgamation with African Americans of lower wealth communities.
