Abstract:

The focus for this session is on a national movement called the Community Learning Exchange, an emerging collective leadership development program that is gaining traction in numerous parts of the country. The purpose is to exchange stories with participants regarding the development of collective leadership for community change.

In 2007 the Center for Ethical Leadership teamed with a group of community leaders from across the country, all who had recently participated in a national leadership development initiative called the Kellogg Leadership for Community Change (KLCC) initiative. The group convened to organize a series of community learning exchanges whereby communities would come together for the purpose of sharing lessons focused on two broad themes: collective leadership and community change. The leadership team developed a two-year calendar whereby five different communities from the KLCC family would each host a community learning exchange. The gatherings would take place in the following places and times: Llano Grande Center, South Texas in May 2008; Roca, Inc., Chelsea, MA, November 2008; Laguna Education Foundation, Albuquerque, NM, March 2009; Citizen Action, Buffalo, NY, July 2009; Migizi/New Paradigm Partners, Minneapolis/Wisconsin, October 2009.
