Abstract:

This paper considers the use of case studies as effective examination of the daily politics that can affect students, teacher, and communities. The paper centers on a case in which a local school board canceled the high school band’s appearance at a local presidential rally after a group of parents and students expressed concern that the act of performing at a national rally is an inappropriate use of public resources. The case examines how school leaders must consider educational opportunities against various local political pressures and policies.
