Indexing Crime and Justice

Abstract | Word Stems | Keywords | Association | Citation | Similar Titles

Abstract:

Following the work on corruption indexes of Transparancy International and the World Bank Institute, international criminologists should invest in the design of composite indices of crime and justice at the level of countries. Results will be presented on specific indices of organised crime and police performance on over 100 countries using data from different sources concerning 2000- 2002. Newer data will be presented to demonstrate the potential of indices to identify trends in crime and criminal policy over time. Finally, an example will be given of a catch-all index of lawfullness which combines indices of various types of crime and crime governance.
