Abstract:

A systematic review was conducted to evaluate the published literature (1989-2008) on risk factors for sexual violence perpetration at the relationship, community, and societal levels of the social-ecological model. Over 70 risk factors were identified. The nature and quality of the evidence supporting these risk factors at each level will be discussed. In addition, this paper will report gaps and methodological issues in the literature, highlight parallels between these findings and risk factors for other forms of violence, and discuss implications for the development of primary prevention approaches for sexual violence perpetration at multiple levels of the social ecology.
