Abstract:

Web-based interactive educational tools are taking over from printed text books and the new technology also opens for musical communication across the classrooms, cities, and even countries. In many countries the education systems are now seriously using the Internet both as an information channel as well as a communication channel. This workshop will focus on a web-based learning environment with interactive tools for music education. In this environment the students work directly on the web. They also save all their musical work in their own web-based portfolio. In this way the students have access to their work and their own music productions from any computer with Internet access. All their musical work is stored in their personal portfolio, which also makes it easy for the teachers to monitor end evaluate their work. In addition every student also has their own personal ArtBlog, where they can publish all their work and also comment on each others work. It is also possible for students from different classes, schools, and even different countries to cooperate within the same music production, because they all are linked together via this web-based learning environment.

This also opens for cross cultural collaborative music composition. Imagine students and teachers in different locations, nationally and globally, who have access to a virtual resource center for music education which allows them to work and collaborate in music education across classrooms and homes and across borders of different kinds. By participating in this workshop you will experience a new way of receiving music education. This workshop also let you experience how to teach music via a web based e-learning environment.
