An Examination of Gender-Moderated Test Bias on the Levenson Self-Report Psychopathy Scale

Abstract | Word Stems | Keywords | Association | Citation | Similar Titles

Abstract:

The current study examined gender differences in the predictive validity of the Levenson Self-Report Psychopathy Scale (LSRP). In a sample of undergraduate students (n = 403), we compared regression models to determine the presence of test bias. Results indicate thatregression slopes (i.e., correlational magnitudes) between the LSRP and external criteria are similar for men and women. However, the LSRP systematically under- and over-predicts scores (i.e., differential intercepts) on conceptually relevant external criteria, such as those measuring key emotional (i.e., fear, anger, empathy) and behavioral (i.e., aggression, thrill-seeking) aspects of psychopathy. Implications of these differences for the LSRP are discussed.
