A New Type of Paraphilia: Online Sex Offending

Abstract | Word Stems | Keywords | Association | Citation | Similar Titles

Abstract:

This portion of the symposium will aggregate current knowledge surrounding the latest form of sexual deviance: sex offending by means of the Internet. Offenders are no longer limited by geographic location and are less concerned about being caught. Consequently, these offenders are taking advantage of a large pool of potential victims that would not be accessible if it were not for the Internet. Relevant statistics, typologies, etiology and risk factors are reviewed. Victim characteristics (i.e., gender differences) and protective factors will be introduced. Lastly, this portion will address legal and forensic relevance of this population to the forensic psychologist.
