Investigative Interviewing and Statement Analysis applied to Internet-Mediated Deception about one's identity

Abstract | Word Stems | Keywords | Association | Citation | Similar Titles

Abstract:

The current study tests a system of interviewing and credibility assessment that has shown validity in a number of previous settings. However, the current study focuses on internet-mediated deception. Participants lied about their identity over the internet, and assessed using investigative interviewing and statement analysis procedures. Likert-type ratings supported current themes within deception research. Content analysis resulted in 81.7% of the statements accurately classified as honest or deceptive. There were some interesting differences in these results when compared to the typical findings of face-to-face deception. These findings are significant for practical application and for basic research into interpersonal deception.
