Abstract:

This presentation will highlight two areas of elder mistreatment research where memory and capacity issues are highly relevant - forensics and measurement. The program manager for elder abuse research at the National Institute of Justice will discuss research priorities and agency funded projects related to elder abuse prosecution and measurement of elder mistreatment. Projects that are focused on issues related to memory, capacity and witness reliability will be emphasized. National prevalence rates will be summarized, as will research on forensic markers, which is critical to prosecution of cases when the elder victim is not capable of providing testimony.
