Abstract:

This paper provides an overview of a forthcoming study of HIV instruction in pre- and in-service teacher training (PITT) programs in seven East African countries: Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda. Instruments are designed to provide a mixed-methods longitudinal examination of existing curricula regarding prevention, treatment, and mitigation of HIV and AIDS. Participants include a random selection of PITT administrators, instructors, and teacher participants in each participating country. Instruction delivery mediums are also evaluated to provide an overview of strengths and weaknesses of each delivery medium.
