Abstract:

This study examines South Korea's Internationalization trends in higher education with focus on regionalization. In particular, this paper aims to show the current status of increasing academic collaborations and active student exchanges between South Korea, Japan, China, and ASEAN countries. It will use the surveys of internationalization policies enacted by South Korean government between 1993 and 2009 and South Korea’s history of bilateral relations in education cooperation with other countries in East Asia. By analyzing statistical data associated with the current level of internationalization of South Korean universities and case study of three main universities in South Korea, this paper will study the participation of South Korean universities in regional educational organizations and higher education networks within the Asian region.
