Beyond Eurocentrism, Toward Empowerment: A Holistic Examination of CSR Research and Practice – Insights From Singapore

Abstract | Word Stems | Keywords | Association | Citation | Similar Titles

Abstract:

Although corporate social responsibility (CSR) has imperiously captured the attention of business leaders and scholars, academic discourse is centered in the West and is largely limited to large organizations. While rigorous, Western perspectives may not fully address the unique circumstances that Asian countries face. At the same time, CSR concepts adopted from studies of large organizations have been unceremoniously applied to small and medium enterprises. Synthesizing extant literature on CSR, four key dilemmas are found in its 1) definition; 2) justification; 3) measurement; 4) methods used. This paper thus aims to provide future research directions in studying CSR to be more inclusive. A Web Model is also suggested as a research framework and methodology that seeks to eliminate flaws in existing research is also proposed.
