Youth Publics and Construction of Citizenship in a Transnational Space

Abstract | Word Stems | Keywords | Association | Citation | Similar Titles

Abstract:

Today’s advanced globalization discourse oscillates around new complex forms of globalization of ‘difference’ through the parallelism of supra- and sub-national cultural forms that are deeply transforming the symbolic territory of nation-states, cultures and identities. This presentation is based on an international empirical study among youth in fourteen countries which aims to identify notions of difference in the construction of civic identity through the framework of globalized discourse worlds. The presentation will in particular attempt to construct generational specific transnational public spaces and their implications for the formation of civic identity and generational specific notions of cosmopolitanism.
