Are two perspectives better than one? About the diagnosticity of multiple lineups -poster

Abstract:

One-hundred-and-ninety-two participants witnessed a filmed wallet theft. Later, participants viewed target present or target absent portrait, body and profile lineups of the four persons involved. As expected, for target/suspect choices all combinations were more diagnostic than individual lineups, with the combination of all three lineups being most diagnostic (DR = 24.5). Adding a second facial lineup in profile view increased diagnosticity as expected. Unexpectedly, combinations of lineup rejections were less successful. Future studies should further investigate the usefulness of a second facial lineup with different angular rotations in combination with other modi not used in the present study.
