Abstract:

This presentation reviews a service-learning communication activism course, titled “Gender and Violence: Dominance, Resistance, and the Cultural Production of Meaning.” Approached from a vantage point of feminist pedagogy, a theoretical rationale for the class is provided; various components, assignments, and readings and viewings for this course are explicated; and pragmatic advice based on the pedagogical successes and challenges of such a course is offered to colleagues wishing to teach such a course.
