Abstract:

The link between past, present and future requires an intergenerational, interdisciplinary analysis. This paper adds data on contemporary education circumstances of African Americans, and alternatives for the future, building upon the data collected in this project, the perspectives of students and researchers engaged in this research, and the broader field of education policy studies. Questions regarding the value and consequences of school desegregation are addressed, with particular attention to economic empowerment. Economic factors associated with the training and inclusion of students and community members as research assistants are also discussed.
