Abstract:

The Art Around project is funded by KU Children’s Services. The goal is to research attitudinal change within early childhood educators towards the provision of a quality visual arts program for children within an early childhood setting. It is evident that early childhood educators understand the importance of a quality visual arts program for children but some continue to neglect its provision. This research will endeavour to investigate if building confidence, knowledge and skills within early childhood educators will enable inclusion of such a program. There are 14 participants from 4 KU centres involved, they will complete an attitudinal survey, attend 10 visual art workshops and visit galleries, complete a reflective journal and become involved within philosophy discussion about a visual arts program. An artist will guide the workshops and art discussions. The presentation will offer results to date and open the floor for discussion.
