Reducing Stigma as a Learning Outcome in Psychology

Abstract | Word Stems | Keywords | Association | Citation | Similar Titles

Abstract:

Stigma is defined in the dictionary as “A mark or token of infamy, disgrace, or reproach.” Stigma in relationship to mental illness and mental illness diagnosis is well-established in the mental health community (Feldman & Crandall, 2007; Spagnolo, Murphy, and Librera, 2008; Johnstone, 2001). Some researchers are now beginning to examine how to reduce stigma in the community and increase acceptance of individuals diagnosed with mental illness.
