Enhancing assessment criteria indicative of deception (ACID) through the strategic use of evidence (SUE)

Abstract | Word Stems | Keywords | Association | Citation | Similar Titles

Abstract:

Statements were tracked across a 3-phase interview comprising Free Recall, Mnemonics (from ACID’s RI), and SUE. Participants entered and memorized a room, or did this plus steal a wallet. DV’s were response length, type-token ratio, and the amount of new details and inconsistencies. There were no differences at Free Recall (classification accuracy = 54%), but differences appeared at Mnemonics (classification accuracy = 84%) and grew at SUE (classification accuracy for mnemonics + SUE = 93%). 1. Central to adult credibility assessment is use of interviewing strategy, 2. ACID and SUE can be used together, 3. Each improves the other.
