Abstract:

Little is known about the personality characteristics that are associated with patterns of cyber deviance (e.g., antisocial behaviors that occur online), the full spectrum of antisocial behaviors that people may engage in online, and the prevalence of these behaviors among community samples. This study expands the spectrum of antisocial behaviors previously researched (e.g, to include lying, identity fraud, online theft), and examines which personality characteristics are associated with these behaviors among both undergraduates and a community sample. Findings inform efforts to better understand the frequency and risk factors associated with cyber deviancy. |
