Abstract:

In this paper, the author examines pop-star Miley Cyrus's pole dance at the Teen Choice Awards in August 2009 as it relates to current cultural representations of adolescent sexual empowerment and sexual freedom. She examines several possible subject positions of Cyrus as well as of her teen/pre-teen viewers and fans.
