Abstract | Word Stems | Keywords | Association | Citation | Similar Titles

Abstract:

It was revealed from Grade 5 national assessment results that schools performed differently across regions. The DNEA, therefore, recognized the need for conducting case studies at a few selected schools in the region. The purpose of this study was to understand about possible school factors that might have influenced school’s low performance in grade 5 national assessment. The school obtained an average score of 24% in English and 28% in mathematics and about 100% of its learners were in Below Basic and Basic achievement categories.

The study revealed that poor quality of teaching, unplanned tasks or class work, lack of teacher training, lack of parental involvement and their low educational background, lack of support, monitoring, and supervision from the regional office, lack of mentorship, proper guidance, and feedback from school management were among few factors (i.e., indicators) that had significant influence on students’ low performance in grade NSAT.
