Abstract | Word Stems | Keywords | Association | Citation | Similar Titles

Abstract:

The purpose of the second case study was to learn about possible factors that that might have influenced school’s high performance in grade 5 national assessment. The school obtained an average score of 80% in English and 74% in mathematics and over 90% learners were in Above Basic and Excellent achievement categories.

Although all identified key areas had contributed to school performance to some degree, full establishment of trained and experienced teachers, adequate supply of resources (text books, posters, etc.), teachers’ well prepared lesson plan, their acceptable level of English proficiency, active learning teaching, parents and communities active involvement, etc. were among the few major indicators. Moreover, learners were given more opportunities, responsibilities, and trust in an environment which was both stimulating and humanizing. It was also observed that the school maintains good relationship with other schools in the cluster.
