Historical and critical review of education research situation in the United States

Abstract:

Since 1990, OECD and UNESCO conduct a series of research on the historical and critical examination of “education research”, and most of the findings conclude that the weakness of the outcomes/products in the field. They also discover that a patchy state of knowledge about education system and it is hard to produce “evidence” to inform policy. To solve the puzzle above, countries work on the review of “education research” in their own countries and try to provide the strategies to improve the quality of education research. The project is one part of the integrated research project, The Review of Education Research, and it is a three-year research project. In the first year, we will collect the historical archive on education research in the United States, interview the stakeholders, and review the research reports on education research to figure out the process of institutionalization in the field of education research. In the second year, we will collect the institutionalization, research reports, interview international key scholars, and review crucial journal articles to analyze the development and tendencies of the field of “Educational Policy and Administration.” In the last year, we will conduct and review the development of “Educational Policy and Administration” in Taiwan and juxtapose and compare the tendencies with other countries.
