Abstract:

A public-private partnership for education, the Program for Educational Development of Equatorial Guinea (PRODEGE) is working to transform the educational system of the country, concentrating on the quality of primary education. Working closely with the Ministry of Education, the Program is implementing the active schools model, which includes the development of learning materials for students and teachers. A technical team made up of national authors, facilitators and teachers is developing student learning guides for primary school grades that correspond to the national curriculum and textbooks. Utilizing real life exercises to ensure that the activities are relevant to the lives of students in Equatorial Guinea, the guides provide the processes and interactions necessary for students to develop key competencies in reading and writing.

This presentation will describe the process and strategy of developing and validating the guides, the challenges and opportunities, as well as the experience of empowering and building the capacity of nationals to create materials that respond to the specific needs of students in Equatorial Guinea.
